At the end of the two-year course, the student must have expanded the knowledge of techniques and specific skills already acquired during the three-year first-level program. Based on this advanced knowledge, they must be able to concretely realize their artistic vision through a personalized study path. To this end, special emphasis will be placed on studying the most representative repertoire for the instrument – including ensemble repertoire – and related performance practices, with the goal of developing the ability to interact within musically diverse groups.
The student must have acquired a deep understanding of the general stylistic, historical, and aesthetic aspects, as well as those specific to their field of study. Finally, as a result of completing an advanced course of study, it is expected that the student will have developed the ability to continue studying largely autonomously.
Occupational Prospects
The course provides the student with the opportunity to professionally realize themselves in the following areas:
Admission
Admission to the second-level Academic Diploma course in Flute is reserved for students holding a first-level academic diploma, a degree diploma, or a conservatory diploma from the previous system, together with a secondary school diploma. Students holding an equivalent qualification obtained abroad and recognized as suitable may also be admitted. The aforementioned qualifications must be consistent with the chosen course. The recognition of the eligibility of foreign qualifications solely for admission to the course is decided by the institution, in compliance with regulations, European Union directives, and applicable international agreements.
For all students, admission is subject to passing a selection exam that assesses the necessary musical and cultural skills. Admission from another second-level academic diploma course is also conditional upon passing the related admission exams. If the student, during the admission exam, shows gaps in the required musical and cultural preparation or if their study curriculum is not fully consistent with the chosen course and is declared “eligible with educational obligations,” they will be required to fill the assigned gaps by attending specific supplementary training activities and passing the related assessments.
The admission of foreign students is subject to verifying their adequate knowledge of the Italian language: if the verification result is partially negative, a learning debt will be assigned, which must be completed by attending an Italian language course for foreigners, if activated, and passing the related
Admission Program
Any CREDITS/DEBTS will be assigned in relation to the previous educational path completed. For students from the previous system, the assignment of debts should address disparities and create equivalency with the first-level Academic Diploma course in Flute.
Performance Practice Exams at the End of the 1st and 2nd Year
The Performance Practice I and Performance Practice II exams will consist of a recital with repertoire agreed upon with the teacher, based on the personal path of each student, lasting 40 minutes.
Final Exam
The final exam serves to highlight the candidate’s unique qualities that emerged during the Academic Course. The Student is allowed to take the final exam for the achievement of the Academic Diploma after:
At the time of the Final Exam, the Student must have acquired all the credits required by their course of study, otherwise, the exam will not be valid.
The Final Exam can take place according to one of the following options, chosen by the Student, in agreement with the Reference Teacher:
In cases (1.) and (2.), up to 15 minutes of previously presented program from the Two-Year exams may be included, in agreement with the Reference Teacher of the course.
If necessary, a Co-supervisor may be involved to assist the Student in writing the program notes or the thesis. The presence of a Co-supervisor must be agreed upon with the Reference Teacher. The involvement of a Supervisor and a Co-supervisor must be arranged at least three months before the graduation session.
Departments may adjust the duration of the program and the methods for conducting the final exam. The final exam must differ from the exams of the first and second years. It must have a monographic or thematic nature, and the practical performance, lasting between 30 and 40 minutes, must be followed by a discussion of approximately 20 minutes in which the candidate will explain the reasons for their repertoire and interpretative choices. For this purpose, the candidate must also prepare a brief introductory thesis to the presented program.
The application for the Final Exam must be submitted between April 1st and 30th for the summer and autumn sessions, and between December 1st and 17th for the winter session.
The text related to the Final Exam must be sent by email to segreteria.didattica@issmpuccinigallarate.it and to the Exam Commission 15 days before the date of the Final Exam, in .pdf file format; at the same time, a printed and bound copy with a hard cover must be submitted.
The Final Exam Commission consists of an odd number of members (at least five), is chaired by the Director or their delegate, and includes the Supervisor/preparer of the performance exam, any Co-supervisor, and at least two members, one of whom must be from the relevant field.
Upon passing the exam, the hours of attendance for the course are recognized. A maximum of 8 hours is provided for preparing the Final Exam with a Tutor/Supervisor.
