Incoming Students

Students from partner institutions are welcome to spend a study or traineeship period at our Conservatory.

Gallarate is a charming town located just 10 minutes from Milan Malpensa Airport, the second largest airport in Italy, and about 30 minutes from Milan, one of the most important musical centers in the country and home to the world-renowned Teatro alla Scala.

The conservatory enjoys a strategic location surrounded by nature, close to the lush green Prealps and some of the most beautiful lakes in Northern Italy, such as Lake Maggiore, Lake Lugano, and Lake Como.

Our institution is located in two remarkable buildings. The main one is Villa Maino, a characteristic Art Nouveau villa designed by the architect Carlo Moroni. The building, spread over two floors, is considered one of the most prestigious landmarks in Gallarate. It features beautiful stained-glass windows, a majestic staircase, and many elegant architectural details typical of the early twentieth century.

The second building is the Teatro del Popolo, a distinctive theatre from the 1920s with three floors, 220 seats, and two loggias. This venue hosts concert series for students and professors, as well as seminars, workshops, and part of our teaching activities.

Before applying, students must be officially nominated by their home institution through EWP Dashboard.

The application must include:

  • Application Form
  • Copy of passport or ID card
  • CV in English (preferably Europass format)
  • Motivation letter or short presentation video
  • Performance recording (private YouTube link, 15-minute programme of free repertoire)

Applications are accepted once per year, from March 1st to June 1st, for the Autumn semester, the Spring semester, or the full academic year. If the application is accepted, the student will be asked to complete the Online Learning Agreement with all the details of the study programme during the mobility period.

The academic year is structured as follows:

  • Autumn semester runs from 2 November to the end of February (exams in February/March).
  • Spring semester runs from 1 March to 31 July (exams in June/July).

Teaching activities are mainly conducted in Italian. Some individual classes may be offered in English (piano, cello, guitar, chamber music). A minimum B1 level is recommended. To obtain credits and access examinations, students must attend at least 80% of lessons.

Credits are assigned according to the annual workload; in case of one-semester mobility, credits are proportionally reduced.

The Conservatorio “G. Puccini” di Gallarate offers Bachelor (First Cycle, Triennio) and Master (Second Cycle, Biennio) degrees in Music Performance and related disciplines.

Incoming Erasmus+ students may choose courses from our official study programmes. Before filling in the Learning Agreement, students are invited to carefully consult the course descriptions below.

The standard full-time workload corresponds to 60 ECTS per academic year (30 ECTS per semester). Erasmus students are normally expected to complete a minimum of 20–30 ECTS per semester, depending on the agreement with their home institution.

Please note: Some courses are structured on a semester basis, while others run for the full academic year.
In the case of semester-based courses, the full ECTS value will be awarded. In the case of annual courses, Erasmus students attending only one semester will normally receive half of the total ECTS credits.

We also welcome students for Erasmus traineeships in specific areas such as piano accompaniment and art production office.

Students must follow the same nomination and application deadlines as “study mobility” (check this section for any detail). Required documents include the application form, CV, motivation letter or presentation video, and (for performing students) a performance recording.

Traineeship students receive the Erasmus financial support from their home institution. No additional remuneration is provided unless otherwise specified.
