Admission
Three Studies of different techniques chosen from: Czerny op. 740, Cramer 60 Etudes, Clementi, Moscheles, Mendelssohn, Kessler, Chopin, Liszt, Skryabin, Debussy, Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev or other composers of equivalent technical level.
A program lasting at least 15 minutes including:
- One Prelude and Fugue from the Well Tempered Clavier by J.S. Bach or other significant polyphonic composition by J.S. Bach;
- a movement from a Sonata by Clementi, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert;
- one or more relevant 19th or 20th century compositions from those by Schubert, Schumann, Chopin, Liszt, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Franck, Debussy, Ravel, Skryabin, Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev or other composers.
Performance Practices and Repertoires
I year: 40 minute program approved by the exam committee two weeks before the exam.
II year: 50 minute program approved by the exam committee two weeks before the exam.
III year: 60 minute program approved by the exam committee two weeks before the exam.
It is possible to repeat, for a maximum of 15 minutes, pieces from previous exams.
Final Exam: at least 30 minutes of new program, learnt autonomously, approved by the exam committee 3 months before the exam.
The commission to approve the exam programs, renewed every year, is made up of the Headmaster or his delegate and two Professors chosen among the teaching staff of the department.
Minimum program to be carried out over three years and to be presented in all 3 exams:
A Beethoven sonata, excluding Sonatas op. 49;
A significant piece in contrapuntal and polyphonic style;
Four Etudes (of different techniques and composers, among which an Etude by Chopin is mandatory) out of six learnt during the course degree, from Clementi to the 20th c. composers.
A relevant piece from the early 1800s;
An relevant piece composed between the 1800s and 1900s;
A non-tonal piece (indicatively Schoenberg, Messiaen, Ligeti, Stockausen, Berio etc.)
A relevant Concerto for piano and orchestra to be performed compulsorily with second piano accompaniment.
PS: Students enrolled in the Bachelor Degree are obliged to accompany two students per year in concerts or exams (within the institutional context) attending String or Wind Classes.
